Dentist visit during COVID-19

Is It Safe To Visit The Dentist During COVID-19?

The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has slowed across much of the country, and many dental offices including Pflugerville Family Dentistry have begun seeing patients for routine dental care like teeth cleanings and oral exams.

But is it really safe to see the dentist during COVID-19? At our office, the answer is “yes!” Dr. Mun and the rest of our dental team are taking every precaution recommended by the ADA, CDC, and OSHA to keep you safe during your appointment. Learn more below.

Patient Check-Ins & Social Distancing At Our Office

Before you come to our office for an appointment, we’ll ask you to answer a few questions about traveling, whether you’ve been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, and about any symptoms that you have experienced.

We’ll also be taking your temperature at check-in and offering hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean. Before your appointment begins, we also will ask you to rinse with a special antimicrobial mouth rinse.

In addition, we ask that you wear a face covering to your appointment, if possible. When you arrive, you will need to wait in your car and call or text us. We will let you know when to come in, and you’ll enter our office and go directly to your treatment area.

We have also begun spreading out appointments and extending appointment times to minimize the number of people in our office at once, and to ensure proper social distancing. We ask for your patience, as this may affect appointment availability.

Medical Grade Air Purifiers & Oral Suction Devices

We have invested in medical-grade HEPA air purifiers that are specifically designed to kill viruses, and installed them in operating areas as well as common areas of our office. This ensures that you and our staff members are breathing safe, healthy air.

Additionally, we have invested in advanced oral suctioning devices that sanitize and minimize aerosols from dental procedures.

Enhanced PPE For All Staff Members

Our staff members are using PPE including N95 masks, hair coverings, face shields, gowns, and other such protective equipment. In addition, all of our front office staff are wearing masks and are protected by plexiglass barriers.

With in-office laundry, we encourage our team members to wear work scrubs and shoes, and clean them in our office, wearing a separate outfit when they leave work. This helps further reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Regular Cleaning Of Common Areas

Beyond cleaning and sanitizing operatories and patient treatment areas, we’re also using disinfectant products to clean all common areas and frequently touched surfaces including door knobs, bathrooms, chairs, countertops, tables, and more. Each area is cleaned and wiped down multiple times a day to provide you with peace of mind.
